Author: SILVERFOX2 Subject: War machine Part 1 Posted: APRIL 07, 1999 08:21 Fox wondered whether it was worth it to get out of bed. His job was to defend Corneria, but there was nothing to defend. Sure, he could lead a scientific expedition to some remote planet in the far off reaches of the galaxy. He wished Peppy were here. Peppy had retired after Fox had defeated Andross. Peppy was now living with his newphew. Fox could take a run in the simulator, but that just wasn't real. As Fox got out of bed, he turned on his computer and checked for some news updates. "Please! There must be some terrorists I can fight with!" Nope, nothing but some obscure power struggle in the Cornerian high council. General Pepper was in competition for leader of Corneria with some other guy, named Malkron. Malkron was a pacifist, and said that if Corneria had used diplomatic methods, Andross might not have ravagd the planet. Politics bored Fox. He needed some adventure, but how? The company that built the Arwings had no plans to produce another version, and another Great Fox was out of the qustion. The Star Fox team was going through major funding cutbacks. Some people questioned the need for a Star Fox team. One thing was certain: Fox was not going to sit on some space station while the world passed him by. As he checked his computer, he noticed he had recieved some message. It was about some missing account of his fathers. In the first time in a while, Fox felt interested. The message stated that the bank had discovered a hidden account in the name of James McCloud. The amount was close to 700 million. Fox read it again, expcting it to change, but it didn't. 700 million? Where would his father get money like that? That was more money than he had received after defeating Andross. The bank had no idea where the money had come from. His father must have worked for some high ranking government postiion, or found some lost fortune on some godforsaked planet. All Fox really cared about was, this could return him to space. Author: SILVERFOX2 Subject: War machine Part 2 Posted: APRIL 07, 1999 10:16 Fox quickly called his teamates and told them the good news. Slippy was hysterical as always. Falco maintained that cool and collected attitude, but Fox knew he was excited. About as excited when Falco sees some girl staring at him. But getting a ship and new Arwings wouldn't be easy. You can't pull a high tech fighter out of nowhere. Some take years of development, and rigorous testing. But the hardest part would be convincing Space Dynamics Co. to begin development on the new ships. "Slip, does your father still work for Space Dynamics?" "Nah, he resigned last month. But, being the son of the CEO, I might be able to pull a few strings at the company." Falco quickly spoke up. "Fox, what about a new wingman? With Peppy gone, we're just not as strong as before, and to be in the Cornerian Space Force, you must have four members, no more, no less." "I told you. There's no interest. People don't want to join the military, they want to fun in their lives. There hasen't been any war for several years, and there isn't gonna be any war in the future." "Stop being so hippocritical. You just said you were trying to get some ships. What good would that do?" "Listen to me! I don't want to spend my life on some space station. I want to be out there, where things happen. The most exciting thing that happens here is a new kind of donut." "Well, donuts are good..." Slippy walked into the huge building that was Space Dynamics Co. The receptonist istantly recognized him. "Ahh, Slippy, good to see ya! What can I do for you?" "I must see the CEO of this company. Immediately." "He said he does not want to be disturbed. Come back later." "It's urgent, I must see him NOW!" "Oh alright." The receptionist pushed a button. "Mister Drakus? There's someone here to see you. He says it's urgent." A gruff voice crackled through. "Alright send him in." Slippy walked in. The office had rearranged since his father was here. "Why hello Slippy, what can I do for you?" "Well, my friend Fox Mccloud stumbled upon a very large family fortune." "How much?" "Oh, around 700 million?" "His family must be rich. What does he do?" Slippy was surprised that this guy didn't know who Fox Mccloud was, but he told him anyway. "He's the leader of the Star Fox team. He's looking for new ships. He asks if you could build some." "Ah Star Fox, yes. I remember, we built ships for them." "And they were great!" "We spent millions of dollars and several years designing the thing, and now it's collecting dust in a museum. We had to put our transport ship on hold to get the ships to Fox on time. Now Fox comes back to me, begging for me to give the go ahead on another Arwing. Who does he think I am, a Venomian Sun god? Get out of here, and tell Fox the Star Fox team is useless! You here me? Useless!" Slippy was disheartened, but he wouldn't give up. Most CEO's don't take every request they hear. There would have to be a major conflict before any even considered the idea of building new ships. "Well, what did he say?" "He said no way, and the Star Fox team is useless." "I expected that. I don't wish war on anyone, but we need a war! It's what we do." "What about this power struggle? It could end up in war. Last time I heard, General Pepper was garthering his forces. The council is split in half. One belives that Malkron should be leader, and the other says General Pepper is the true leader. This struggle shows no signs of slowing down. Some people say it could end up in a civil war." "We would be fighting against ourselves. I cannot do that." "This could be the time you get back into space why.." Slippy was cut off by a loud explosion. The space station lurched, and a hissing sound filled the air. WARNING! STRUCTURAL DAMAGE. EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY! Subject: War Machine Part 3 (1/2) Posted: APRIL 08, 1999 08:22 Fox hurried out of the room to the escape pods. The space sation was under attack by fighers, and he could do nothing. He hated that feeling. He got the escape pod, closed the door and pulled the release lever. As he accelerated towards Corneria, he looked out the small window at the attacking ships. What he saw surprised him. They were CORNERIAN ships, attacking a Corneria space station. After Fox had landed, he explained what he had seen to General Pepper. "Yes, Malkron has decided to use overt force to try to send his message. He's now a terrorist, not a leader. He declared war on us a day ago. Corneria is now in a state of civil war." "Sir, we need ships. We might be able to do something in this war, not just stand by and watch everything go to hell." "You've probably heard this before, you can't pull ships out of the air." "There must be something we can fly." "Hmm, okay, what you are about to hear should not be discussed with anyone but your teammates, alright?" "Yes sir." "During the war with Andross, we begin building a ship and fighters. These were the most advanced ships this side of the galaxy. Had you failed in your mission, these ships were to be the last line of defence." "You thought I would fail?" "Fox, the odds were stacked against you. You were very lucky to come back alive." Fox entered the room where his ship was having the finishing touches put on it. "I can't wait to see it!" Slippy said. "Calm down Slippy, you're high-pitched voice hurts my ears!" The team got its first glimpse of the Great Fox II. It was pitch black. Normally, all ships are a greyish color, but this was pure black. "What's with the color?" An engineer spoke up: "That's so it blends in with space, making it harder to see." Around the ship, workers srambled to install computer equipment. The computational devices on the ship were no longer state of the art. "What does it have for weapons?" "First, GSH-800 blasters. Then the D80 mk II torpedo. These can destroy a fully loaded battle cruiser in just two shots. Finally, a massive railgun. It launches uranium slugs at super high velocities. The force is enough to rip a two foot hole through an entire ship lengthwise." "Wow. What about our new Arwings?" "Just follow me." The team walked into a smaller room. Inside were four gleaming Arwings, shimmering in the sun. "What's new?" asked Falco. "Well, we've bumped the laser power seven fold, and added some missiles and bombs. It now flies much faster than the previous Arwing. Our new G Diffusor is now all weather compatible. You don't have to worry about it freezing up, like on one of your missions." "Yeah but when do we get to fly them?" "Oh, in a couple of weeks, I guess." As the team left the building, Fox gave falco a pat on the pack. "Falco we're going back.
