Prologue
The setting is five years after the great Lylatian War. Fox McCloud, Falco
Lombardi, Slippy Toad, and Peppy Hare have become a group of living
legends. Andross and his evil minions have been defeated. Supposedly,
Andross was killed in the Battle of Venom years ago. That decisive victory
at the region of space code named "Area6", proved the turning point of the
Lylatian War. Reportedly, over sixty-percent of the main Androssian battle
fleet was totally destroyed, along with the Vemonian Flagship Ape's Head.
The Star Wolf team was also defeated there. Pigma Dengar and Andrew
Oikonny were reported dead and Wolf O'Donnell missing. Leon Powalski was
captured and charged with genocide against the Lylat System.
But the price of victory was great for the Star Fox team. After they had
cleared the way for the Cornerian Strike Force by destroying the space
station Gorgon, they descended to Venom to battle Star Wolf and Andross.
This turned out to be a trap for the Strike Force. Andross's plan was to
lure Star Fox to the planet's surface to keep them busy while his main
fleet, hidden behind Venom during Star Fox's fight againist Gorgon,
punished the invading foes. General Pepper was crippled and nearly half of
Corneria's defense fleet was destroyed in the battle, but not before they
had chased Andross's forces to the SectorZ nebula.
Since that time, Corneria has been battling the remnants of the Androssian
Fleet. Before the Star Fox team joined Pepper in fighting againist Venom,
Andross controlled every planet in the Lylatian System except Corneria.
Now, Venom's forces occupy Zoness and a small porition of Aquas-which they
are losing to advancing Cornerian troops. Rumors have persisted to this
day that Venom's forces still have a hidden base in the SectorZ nebula
were they found their safety during the war.
Corneria's government has predicted the total defeat of Venom's forces
within the following year. With this in mind, Pepper has decided to set up
a base on Venom itself, even though the Star Fox team has advised against
it. They believe Venom should be left as it was after the Battle at Area6.
That is a barren lifeless planet, serving as a reminder of Andross and how
close he came to conquering Lylat. General Pepper places Katt Monroe in
charge of the operation to build the base on Venom. Katt agrees, thankful
to get off of the front line fighting on Aquas alongside Bill Gray.
Since Bill's command of the Katina base during the war, he has become a
colonel. Now he leads the battle on Aquas, which has slowed to a crawl in
recent months. Since Pepper and Katt are busy on Venom, he goes to his old
friend Fox McCloud to lend a hand in the fighting there. Fox and the team
are glad to help someone that they have been friends with since before
the war.
After Andross's defeat at the hands of Star Fox, the team has continued to
fight and liberate the planets of Lylat. During the march to Venom, they
freed Macbeth and were of great assistance in driving enemy forces from
Meteo, Katina, and SectorX. Since then, Titania, Fortuna, and SectorY have
also been freed from Vemonian forces. The team played a significant role
in battles at Solar and Venom's artifical moon, Bolse, which has been
captured by the Cornerian military. 
In coming months, Bolse will be used as a storage facility for the
construction of the Venom Base that Katt and General Pepper will over see.
Pepper, however, still has one duty left on his home world of Corneria,
which is to preside over the trial of one Leon Powalski.
Leon Powalski, former Star Wolf pilot and thought to be the only living
member of the team that once struck fear into its enemies hearts, has
been a prisoner of war for five years. He has been held in a maximum
security prison in the SectorY nebula on charges of crimes against the
Lylatian people. His trial has been scheduled for many months, and is set
to begin in one week when he will be transferred to Corneria for his
trial. A trial that Fox McCloud has been looking forward to in recent
months.
Fox McCloud, on Corneria preparing the Star Fox team for its mission to
Aquas, has taken time recently to look after the crippled General Pepper.
Since Pepper's injury in the war, Fox has felt a need to spend time with
the aging General at his home in Corneria's capital city. The rest of the
team has been helpful to Pepper during the years after the war. Falco and
Peppy have assisted Pepper in running Corneria's government and military,
while Slippy has done his best to make life easier for the general with
his numerous inventions.
Now that the end of the war is in sight, life on Corneria has been more
relaxed. With the construction of the new base and the trial of Leon about
to begin, every being in Lylat can breath a collective sigh of relief. No
one suspects the new threats that lurk on the horizon that have yet to
appear, or that the fight on Aquas has slowed more then most people have
though. And so begins the tale of the second great Lylatian War...
